Former Oprah producer gives lighting tips to After School Matters students

Last week Vedran Residbegovic’s After School Matters class had an opportunity to learn lighting techniques and tricks from film expert Bill Sacco. Bill Sacco worked for Harpo Productions, Oprah Winfrey’s production studio from 1996 to 2011. Mr Sacco brought in his lighting equipment to teach technical and aesthetic aspects of lighting. He demonstrated how to properly set up lights, then moved into discussing tools such as like filters, diffusers, and gels.

Students were intrigued to get a lighting lesson from a professional filmmaker. Many of the students were also curious about Mr Sacco’s time working with Oprah and his experiences over the years. After the lesson, the students set up their own lights and tried out some of the techniques they learned.
